Theater voor Keti Koti 2019

Theater voor Keti Koti is een tweedaags festival om de afschaffing van de slavernij in het Koninkrijk te gedenken en de vrijheid te vieren. Dit jaar brengen we samen met Het Mauritshuis en toneel van Bodil de la Parra een nog onbekend stuk geschiedenis voor het voetlicht: Nederlands-Brazilie.

Wandeling Den Haag & Slavernij

Wat is er in Den Haag aan sporen van het slavernijverleden te vinden? Vanuit de hofstad werden de koloniën bestuurd, en vele generaties inwoners hadden economische belangen in overzeese plantages. Maar de stad werd ook bezocht en bewoond door mensen uit Afrika en het Caribisch gebied. Sommigen spraken zich uit tegen het slavernijsysteem. Van Guillaume Groen van Prinsterer tot Anton de Kom, de relaties tussen Den Haag en slavernij zijn zeer divers en boeiend. Uw gids Valika Smeulders, living history acteurs, het AFIMO koor en Studio 52nd brengen de verhalen tot leven.

We starten bij het Mauritshuis op het pleintje achter de toegangshekken. We bezoeken hier de tentoonstelling Bewogen Beeld en leren meer over Maurits & Nederlands Brazilië.  Daarna wandelen we verder.

Koken voor Kakera Akotie

In veel culturen is herdenken en vieren onlosmakelijk verbonden met samen eten. Met Koken voor Kakera Akotie onderzoekt Phi Nguyen, samen met Khadija Massaoudi, Maureen de Jong, muzikanten en acteurs van de Veenfabriek en verschillende gasten, op muzikale, theatrale en gastronomische wijze de noodzakelijkheid van een gezamenlijk verhaal rondom ons koloniale en slavernijverleden.

De voorstelling is inclusief een heerlijk 5 gangen diner gemaakt door Phi en Maureen. Het diner bestaat uit gerechten die iets vertellen over de persoonlijke geschiedenis van Phi, Khadija en Maureen, geïnspireerd door het boek ’the cooking gene’ van Michael Twitty.

Thema ‘Macht en machteloosheid’

De Keti Koti (Dialoog) Tafel is een nieuwe traditie waarbij middels het uitwisselen van persoonlijke ervaringen stilgestaan wordt bij de hedendaagse gevolgen van het Nederlandse slavernijverleden met witte en zwarte Nederlanders en alle kleuren daar tussen in. Tijdens de dialoog gebruiken we een gezamenlijke 3-gangen maaltijd die ons herinnert aan het slavernijverleden waarbij aan het begin en aan het eind, passende rituelen worden uitgevoerd. Tussen de gesprekken door zingt het koor Afimo de treur- en bevrijdingsliederen die gezongen werden ten tijde van de slavernij.

Het Verbrande Huis

In Het Verbrande Huis wekt Bodil de la Parra het huis en haar bijzondere Surinaamse familie weer tot leven. Een persoonlijk familieverhaal dat onderdeel uitmaakt van de Nederlands-Surinaamse geschiedenis en start met de Portugees-Joodse voorouders in Nederlands Brazilië (waar we in het Mauritshuis eerder op de dag al mee kennismaakten). De voorstelling wekt een vergane periode tot leven en brengt tegelijkertijd een ode aan het land Suriname, dat onlosmakelijk verbonden is met Nederland.
