Op 1 juli herdenken we de afschaffing van de slavernij in Suriname en de Nederlandse Antillen. Op deze dag presenteren wij de bijzondere voorstelling In Suriname. De voorstelling duikt onze gezamenlijke geschiedenis in met een ode aan de Surinaamse literatuur en verhalen. Op 14 en 15 september 2019 in Theater aan het Spui presenteren Afimo en Stichting PLC het gezamenlijk programma Toen en Nu. Op zaterdag 14 september staat het programma in het teken van herdenking en cultuur. Zondag 15 september is een informatiedag over budgettering met voorlichting en toneel.
De feestelijke opening vindt plaats op 14 september 2019 door de Bazuinkoor Boven de Sterren en Vrouwen van Afimo in Koto, in een bijzondere parade lopen zij van het stadhuis naar het theater. Na het welkomstwoord start het programma met een lezing over trans-Atlantische slavenhandel door Dr. C.A.P. Antunes, hoogleraar geschiedenis aan de Universiteit van Leiden. Hierna volgt storytelling en cabaret o.a. door Dorothy Blokland, dans en klederdracht door Kula Skoro gevolgd door de samengestelde ensemble Crossing Atlantic met een muzikale reis van Afrika naar Suriname. De avond wordt afgesloten met Kaseko muziek door Boven de Sterren. Het programma biedt ook een gezamenlijke maaltijd en bijzondere kraampjes in de foyer met informatie en lekkernijen.

Wat is er in Den Haag aan sporen van het slavernijverleden te vinden? Vanuit de hofstad werden de koloniën bestuurd, en vele generaties inwoners hadden economische belangen in overzeese plantages. Maar de stad werd ook bezocht en bewoond door mensen uit Afrika en het Caribisch gebied. Sommigen spraken zich uit tegen het slavernijsysteem. Van Guillaume Groen van Prinsterer tot Anton de Kom, de relaties tussen Den Haag en slavernij zijn zeer divers en boeiend. Koken voor Kakera Akotie

In veel culturen is herdenken en vieren onlosmakelijk verbonden met samen eten. Met Koken voor Kakera Akotie onderzoekt Phi Nguyen, samen met Khadija Massaoudi, Maureen de Jong, muzikanten en acteurs van de Veenfabriek en verschillende gasten, op muzikale, theatrale en gastronomische wijze de noodzakelijkheid van een gezamenlijk verhaal rondom ons koloniale en slavernijverleden.
De voorstelling is inclusief een heerlijk 5 gangen diner gemaakt door Phi en Maureen. Het diner bestaat uit gerechten die iets vertellen over de persoonlijke geschiedenis van Phi, Khadija en Maureen, geïnspireerd door het boek ’the cooking gene’ van Michael Twitty.

Thema ‘Macht en machteloosheid’
De Keti Koti (Dialoog) Tafel is een nieuwe traditie waarbij middels het uitwisselen van persoonlijke ervaringen stilgestaan wordt bij de hedendaagse gevolgen van het Nederlandse slavernijverleden met witte en zwarte Nederlanders en alle kleuren daar tussen in. Tijdens de dialoog gebruiken we een gezamenlijke 3-gangen maaltijd die ons herinnert aan het slavernijverleden waarbij aan het begin en aan het eind, passende rituelen worden uitgevoerd. Tussen de gesprekken door zingt het koor Afimo de treur- en bevrijdingsliederen die gezongen werden ten tijde van de slavernij.

Het Verbrande Huis

In Het Verbrande Huis wekt Bodil de la Parra het huis en haar bijzondere Surinaamse familie weer tot leven. Een persoonlijk familieverhaal dat onderdeel uitmaakt van de Nederlands-Surinaamse geschiedenis en start met de Portugees-Joodse voorouders in Nederlands Brazilië (waar we in het Mauritshuis eerder op de dag al mee kennismaakten). De voorstelling wekt een vergane periode tot leven en brengt tegelijkertijd een ode aan het land Suriname, dat onlosmakelijk verbonden is met Nederland.

Speciale Moksi Patu 23 januari 2019
Op 23 januari 2019 vindt een speciale Moksi Patu plaats die u niet mag missen. Want naast een heerlijke maaltijd en prachtig toneel (de voorstelling was oorspronkelijk geagendeerd op 28 december, maar schuift dus door), is deze avond ook de officiële start van PLC Den Haag.
PLC (Participatie, Leefbaarheid en Cultuur) Den Haag komt voort uit Stichting Samen Sterk. Op 23 januari brengen we u graag op de hoogte hoe dat precies is gegaan en waarom we voor deze nieuwe naam kiezen.
Nog één keer kijken we terug naar het verleden om daarna de blik volledig op de toekomst te richten. Zodat we u wederom schitterende programma’s kunnen bieden waarin we elkaar ontmoeten, herkennen en ontdekken.

Moksi Patu op theaterfestival De Parade
Graag nodigen we u uit voor de feestelijke seizoensafsluiting van de Moksi Patu theaterreeks op festival De Parade. Heerlijk tafelen en een voorstelling bekijken in het Westbroekpark. Het vervoer heen en terug is voor u geregeld vanaf halte rondvaartboot Centraal Station. Met live muziek van Dana Fung Loy!
De opstapplaats
Om 15.00 uur vertrekken we per schuit vanaf de aanlegplaats recht tegenover de Koninklijke academie voor Beeldende Kunsten op de Prinsessegracht #4. Die aanlegplaats ligt in het parkje schuin tegenover Centraal Station. Officieel het Koningspark maar beter bekend als Koekamp. We zijn daar weer terug rond 21.00 uur. Kom alstublieft op tijd!
Moksi Patu
De Moksi Patu wordt deze keer verzorgd door HOTMAMAHOT.
Bij Hotmamahot ontmoeten de Arabisch en de Europese keuken elkaar en serveren diverse gerechten zoals hummus plate, worst van Baambrugs big met linzen salade of verse wisselende Noordzeevis met aardappel en venkel.

SOS EARTH
Wordt Mars straks een all-inclusive toevluchtsoord voor de rijke 1%? Of durft u samen met de makers de stap te wagen naar een nieuw begin? Theatergroep SPACE is gevraagd om kwartiermaker te worden en vrijwilligers voor te bereiden op een reis naar het ultieme onzekere. Een intergalactische volksverhuizing. Experts met migrantenachtergrond geven tips en tools om iedereen hier doorheen te slepen. Live muziek vormt de playlist voor dit enkeltje naar Mars.

Moksi Patu & theater 23 februari
Op donderdag 23 februari organiseren we wederom een Moksi Patu diner in combinatie met een bijzondere theatervoorstelling in locatie Theater aan het Spui:
We hadden liefde, we hadden wapens
Muziektheater met krachtige rhythm and blues en soul uit de jaren zestig met o.a. Huub van der Lubbe (De Dijk), Ntjam Rosie, Manoushka Zeegelaar Breeveld , Gery Mendes en Mandela Wee Wee. Zij zingen en spelen het verhaal van de zwarte Amerikaanse burgerrechtenstrijder Robert F. Williams, die in de jaren zestig de zwarte gemeenschap opriep in verzet te komen.
Robert F. Williams vluchtte uiteindelijk met zijn gezin naar Cuba, en later naar China omdat hij in de VS als staatsgevaarlijk werd beschouwd. Zijn leven lang streed hij voor het recht te zijn wie je bent en accepteerde hij alle consequenties van deze strijd. Maar welke gevolgen had zijn onverzettelijkheid voor zijn vrouw en kinderen?

Praat Nederlands met mij!
Op 1 oktober 2016 vond ‘Praat Nederlands met mij’ plaats in Theater Spui Den Haag. Een schitterend evenement om te ontdekken hoe je met woorden verbinding maakt met elkaar en met je omgeving.
Voor een volle zaal werd die kunst bezongen en besproken door een keur aan zangers van uiteenlopende samengestelde achtergronden: van Nederlandse Marrons tot blonde Papiamentstalige Curaçaoënaars, van Hindoestaanse Hagenaars tot honkvaste Utrechters.
De beste manier om terug te kijken is natuurlijk met een filmpje.
